IDTA Dance Examinations

Students have the opportunity to work towards IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) examinations in Ballet, Tap and Jazz. These nationally recognised examinations help students develop strong technical foundations while encouraging discipline, commitment and personal achievement.

Whilst most students enjoy working towards grades and qualifications, others simply attend classes for the enjoyment of dance. Every student is supported in achieving their own individual goals.

Performance Opportunities

At Caroline Clare Dance School, every student has the opportunity to experience the excitement of performing on stage. Every two years, our dancers take part in a full-scale production at The Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks, giving them the chance to perform in a professional theatre and showcase everything they have learned.

Performing in front of an audience helps students develop confidence, teamwork, stage presence and resilience, while creating unforgettable memories. Whether a dancer dreams of a career in the performing arts or simply enjoys being part of the show, every performance is a celebration of their hard work and progress.

Caroline Madden

Principal and Founder of Caroline Clare Dance

With a professional career spanning television, the West End and theatre, Caroline has inspired generations of dancers across Borough Green, Wrotham and the surrounding areas of Kent through exceptional dance education.

Her journey began at just five years old at the Jean Pearce School of Dancing in Leeds, where her natural talent quickly became apparent. By the age of eight, Caroline was performing regularly on Yorkshire Television’s Junior Showtime, leading to performance opportunities across the UK.

At just 16, Caroline became a finalist in the prestigious Miss Dance of Great Britain competition before moving to London to pursue a professional performing career.

Caroline appeared in the BBC’s The Laughter Show alongside Les Dennis and Dustin Gee before discovering her true passion for musical theatre and live performance.

Her stage career included performing opposite Marti Caine at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, where she played the principal role in Funny Girl. Following the production’s successful run, director Clare Venables invited Caroline to remain at the Crucible Theatre to play the Principal Girl in Aladdin, performing alongside Tracy Bennett.

Caroline later successfully auditioned for renowned choreographer Gillian Lynne, joining the West End production of Cabaret alongside Wayne Sleep. She also appeared in the West End production of Sugar Babies, performing with Anne Miller and Mickey Rooney.

For more than 35 years, Caroline has shared her professional experience with students of all ages, helping them develop strong technical foundations, confidence and a genuine love of dance. Many of her students have progressed to professional pantomime productions, vocational dance and theatre training, and auditions with leading companies including Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.

Today, Caroline continues to teach ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and musical theatre, preparing students for IDTA examinations, performances and future opportunities. Whether students dance for fun, to build confidence or with ambitions of a career in the performing arts, Caroline is passionate about helping every individual reach their potential.
